Très bel exemplaire avec un flan légèrement irrégulier, mais recouvert d’une belle patine grise avec des restes de concrétions ocres, surtout au revers

Obverse description : Tête stylisée à gauche, imberbe avec les cheveux regroupés dans une sorte de filet ; la base du cou représentée par un triangle évidé.

Reverse description : Quadrupède passant à gauche, la queue en forme d’esse pointée.

Commentary


Au revers, le cheval a la queue enroulée, mais non pointé. Le cheval a un annelet positionné juste sous la queue.

Sequanes (Region Besançon)

(Second - first century BC)

The Séquanes was one of the most important people of eastern Gaul. They were the enemies of the Aedui, their neighbors. Their territory was vast and stretched between the Saone, Rhone, Jura and Vosges. The Jura lakes separated the Helvetii. They were very strong in the third and second centuries BC, but had lost their pride after the Germans had occupied part of its territory to 70 BC They were neighbors Leuques the Lingons the Aedui and the Helvetii. Their main oppidum was Vesontio (Besançon). Cited several times by Caesar, during the campaign of 52 BC, they provided a contingent of 12,000 men for the army of relief. Caesar (Bg.
