Commentary

Un denier de ce type avec la légende CAPAS nous avait fait l’attribuer à Cheppes (Marnes) ; cf. bmv_287944.
D’un type comparable, mais avec le monogramme édiculaire au droit comme au revers, cet exemplaire présente malheureuseent des légendes hors flan. Si son attribution est complexe, il est cohérent de proposer une origine dans la Marne.
Dans son récent ouvrage sur la circulation monétaire en Touraine, P. Schiesser recense 14 monnaies sous l’appellation de “Génillé”, avec le denier de Troyes pour FREDEBERTVS en prototype.
A denier of this type with the legend CAPAS had led us to attribute it to Cheppes (Marnes); cf. bmv_287944. Of a comparable type, but with the aedicular monogram on the obverse as well as on the reverse, this example unfortunately has legends outside the flan. If its attribution is complex, it is consistent to propose an origin in the Marne. In his recent work on monetary circulation in Touraine, P. Schiesser lists 14 coins under the name “Génillé”, with the Troyes denier for FREDEBERTVS as the prototype
