Historical background
SENS (SENONES CIVITAS) - Yonne
(7th - 8th century)
At the end of the 4th century, Sens was the capital of the 4th Lyonnaise. This civil district serves as a framework for the Church for the foundation of the archdiocese of Sens. In 732, the Moors landed in the Camargue go up the entire Rhone Valley and loot the town of Sens. This operation is seen as an attempt at diversion, in order to divide the Frankish forces to face the year of the Battle of Poitiers..
