Cet exemplaire a la particularité d’avoir une épigraphie au revers ; cette rare variante figure dans le Nouvel Atlas sous le DT. 2540. Le revers avec la légende est gravé d’une croix en creux qui semble d’époque. Ce cas n’avait encore jamais été signalé.

Senons (region of Sens)

(Second - first century BC)

The Sénons, whose name means wise or old, controlled a vast area stretching from the south of Champagne and northern Burgundy. Their main oppidum was Agedincum (Sens), which still retained the name of the ancient civitas. They had several other oppida as Auxerre, Avallon or Thunder. Divona seems to have been the main sanctuary Sénons. Caesar had wintered six of his legions in 53 BC to Agedincum. Labienus, lieutenant and legate of Caesar, settled in the region between Sens and Alesia Gergovie to control the roads and protect Caesar's armies to attack Belgians or Germans. Caesar (Bg. II 2, V, 54, 56, VI, 2, 3, 44; VII, 4, 10, 11, 34, 56-59, 62, 75). Ptolemy (G. II, 8, 9).
