Commentary

Historical background

SECRETARIES OF THE KING

Their function was quite similar to that of our current Secretaries of State. Found online an excellent article on the subject, taken from the Encyclopedic Dictionary of the nobility of France by Nicolas Viton Saint-Allais (1773-1842) - Paris, 1816 http://www.blason-armoiries.org/feodalite -noblesse/s/secretaires-du-roi.htm.
