Cette pièce de trois pound est parfaitement centrée sur un flan régulier, légèrement voilé au centre. Le portrait est impressionnant, très expressif et détaillé malgré une petite usure et quelques griffes. La pièce est recouverte d’une fine patine de collection ancienne

Ce type monétaire de grande rareté a été frappé pour l’Ecosse pour les pièces de Trois Pound et les pièces de 30 Shilling. Il s’agit des seules pièces d’or avec le portrait de Marie Stuart, seule régente.

(1542-1567)

Mary Stuart (1542-1587), daughter of James V of Scotland and Mary of Guise, became Queen of Scotland at 7 days old. Raised at the court of France, she married the Dauphin, future François II. Widow of the King in 1560, she returned to Scotland. In 1565, she married Lord Darnley, father of James VI, who was assassinated two years later by her lover Bothwell, whom she married before having to abdicate in 1567. Refugee in England, she conspired against her cousin, Elizabeth. She was beheaded in 1587 at the Tower of London..
