Historical background

SAVOY - DUCHY OF SAVOY - AMADEUS VIII (DUKE)

(1416-1434)

Amédée VIII (1383-1434) is the son of Amédée VII and Bonne de Bourbon. He ascended the count's throne in 1391, under the regency of his mother until the year 1398. Savoy was erected into a duchy on February 19, 1416. He died in 1434. In his coinage there are three very different periods: regency (1391-1398); count (1398-1416); duke (1416-1434).
