Aimon was born in Bourg-en-Bresse in 1291. He is the son of Count Amédée V and Sibille de Baugé. He was proclaimed count in 1329, on the death of his older brother Edward. In 1330 he married Yolande, daughter of Theodore I Paleologus. He died on June 22, 1343 at the Château de Montmélian.
