He was born in 1070 in Saint-Jean de Maurienne. He is the son of Amédée II and Jeanne de Genève. In 1080, at the age of ten, he succeeded his father as Count of Maurienne, but under the regency of his mother. He died on November 14, 1103 in Moutiers.
