Historical background

SASANIAN - SASANIAN KINGDOM - VARHRAN II

(276-293)

Barhran II succeeded Barhran I (273-276), son of Sapor I (241-272). During his reign, he was confronted with the problems related to the reconquest of the territories lost by the Romans between 240 and 275. Carus seized Ctesiphon in 283 and Barhran had to flee before regaining his capital after the death of the emperor and the retirement of his son Numerian. Barhran had to sign peace and did not live long enough to witness a new Roman invasion under the reign of Narses, his uncle (293-302) by the troops of Galerius.
