L’année 2009 marque le 400ème anniversaire des deux premières lois de l’astronome Johannes Kepler publiées en 1609 dans le traité “Astronomia Nova”. La troisième fut publiée en 1613. Les travaux de Kepler énoncaient, mais sans les expliquer, les relations mathématiques régissant l’orbite des planètes autour du Soleil..

The year 2009 marks the 400th anniversary of the first two laws of the astronomer Johannes Kepler published in 1609 in the treatise “Astronomia Nova”. The third was published in 1613. Kepler's work stated, but did not explain, the mathematical relationships governing the orbit of the planets around the Sun.

SAN MARINO

(13th century - nowadays)

The small republic of San Marino, south of Rimini, has been free since the 13th century. In the 15th century, it gave itself a Grand Council of sixty members recruited from the nobility and the bourgeoisie. In the 19th century it was a bastion for revolutionaries and it placed itself under the protection of the new Italian kingdom from 1862, which respected its independence. The members of the Grand Council are elected for four years by universal suffrage (introduced in 1909); two of them exercise executive power as captains-regent for six months.
