Salonin was elevated to césarat after the death of his brother, Valerian II. Sent into Gaul, under the protection of Posthumus then mere general, he was proclaimed august after the capture of Valerian I in June or July 260. Posthumus, proclaimed august in turn besieged Salonin and put to death.
