Historical background

HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - PALATINATE-SIMMERN-SPONHEIM - RICHARD

(07/25/1521-01/13/1598)

The Palatinate-Simmern-Sponheim was created in 1559 when Frederick II of Palatina-Simmern inherited the Palatinate, and gave both - Simmern and Sponheim - to his young son George. He died in 1569, and was succeeded by his other younger brother Richard. After Richard's death in 1598, the Palatinate-Simmern-Sponheim returned to the Count Palatine of the Rhine.
