The British colony of Saint-Christophe-Nevis-Anguilla was created in 1958, as a province of the Federation of the West Indies, then in 1962 as a colony in its own right, then in 1967 a state with autonomous status. In 1971, Anguilla seceded. In 1983, the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis became an independent state and Anguilla a British overseas territory.
