Neighbors Arverni of Cadurques and Gabales their territory corresponded to former Rouergue (Aveyron current) north of the Tarn, whose course was the border with the province of Narbonne. Ruteni allies of the Arverni, had participated in the operations that led to the defeat of Bituitus king of the Arverni in 121 BC and the creation of the province of Narbonne. On this occasion, Ruteni were found cut in half, following the natural border of the Tarn. Active in the coalition against the Romans in 52 BC, they provided a contingent of 12,000 men to the army of relief. Sources: Caesar (Bg. I, 45, VII, 5, 64, 75 and 90).
