Obverse description : Petite tête à gauche avec des mèches ondulées éparses ; pas d'oreille ; point saillant pour l'œil, le nez, la bouche et le menton ; cou court avec collier de perles ; le tout dans un grènetis.

Reverse description : Sanglier à gauche entre deux annelets bouletés ; le tout dans un grènetis.
Commentary
Trace de deux autres empreintes au droit. Ces drachmes avec la petite tête sont moins courantes que celles à la grosse tête bouclée.
Avec la petite tête, il semble qu'il n'existe qu'un seul coin de revers et deux coins de droit ; celui représenté par la monnaie S. 441 et le second par la monnaie S. 442. Cet exemplaire correspond nettement au coin de la S. 442.

With the small head, it seems that there is only one reverse die and two obverse dies; the one represented by the coin S. 441 and the second by the coin S. 442. This example clearly corresponds to the die of S. 442

GALLIA - SOUTH WESTERN GAUL - RUTENI (Area of Rodez)
(1st century BC)
Neighbors of the Arvernes, the Cadurques and the Gabales, their territory corresponded to the former Rouergue (current department of Aveyron) to the north of the Tarn, the course of which constituted the border with the province of Narbonnaise. The Rutenes, allies of the Arvernes, had participated in the operations which led to the defeat of Bituit, king of the Arvernes in 121 BC and the creation of the province of Narbonnaise. On this occasion, the Rutenes had found themselves cut in two, following the natural border of the Tarn. Active in the coalition against the Romans in 52 BC, they provided a contingent of 12,000 men to the relief army. Sources: Caesar (BG. I, 45; VII, 5, 64, 75 and 90).
