Olga de Kiev, régente du royaume de la Rus' de Kiev au Xe siècle, est connue pour avoir été l'une des premières dirigeantes à se convertir au christianisme. Son influence religieuse a préparé le terrain pour la christianisation de la Rus'. Des années plus tard, son arrière-petit-fils, Vladimir Ier (dit Vladimir le Grand), montera sur le trône et jouera un rôle décisif en adoptant officiellement le christianisme en 988. Ainsi, Olga a ouvert la voie spirituellement, et Vladimir a concrétisé ce changement majeur pour son peuple.
