Commentary

This type of wheel is very rare; it is the first one we are offering for sale. The spokes are twisted and joined in pairs, forming three ovals. The six spokes are joined in the center by a silver globule. There is also a raised area, at noon on the right; the precise use of this wheel remains to be defined. Celtic wheels in potin and with four spokes are quite common, but wheels in noble metal (silver and gold) are extremely rare! For gold, we have only offered one example and for silver, it is the eighth example and the first of this form

Historical background

"ROUELLES"

(2nd - 1st century BC)

Over the past twenty years, roundabouts have become very fashionable objects among the "Celtisians" and we have seen first the objects appear, then the "scientific" reference works which made the amalgamation between pieces really "ancient and Celtic" and all the rest whose fluctuating chronology goes from the 1st century of our era to ....... our days. Specialized studies, comparisons of material, archaeological inventories remain to be carried out before being able to decide and separate what is ancient from what is not..
