Historical background

ROMAIN I LACÉPÈNE

(17/12/920-16/12/944)

Roman I, peasant Armenian origin, was appointed in august 920. His daughter Helen married Constantine VII. He reigned for 25 years, but was deposed by Stephen and Constantine, his children, 944. Two months later, Constantine VII got rid of his two brothers-and reigned for the first time since only 908.
