Exemplaire sur un flan large et irrégulier, légèrement éclaté à11 heures au revers. Belle tête d’Héraclius. Joli revers bien venu à la frappe. Patine grise superficielle avec des reflets dorés

Obverse description : Buste tête nue d’Héraclius de face surmonté d’une croix, vêtu du divistision et du loros.

Reverse description : Légende posée en croix dans un grènetis circulaire entouré d’une couronne.
Reverse translation : “Victoria”, (la Victoire).

Commentary


Suivant les ouvrages, ce type est décrit comme une demi silique (Sear) ou un tiers de silique (Hahn). De la plus grande rareté. C’est la première fois que nous proposons un exemplaire à la vente. Poids lourd pour ce type, en général plus léger.

REVOLT OF THE HERACLII

(summer 608 - 5/10/610

Heraclius had been prefect of Africa since the reign of Maurice Tiberius. With his son, also named Heraclius, he revolted against the tyranny of Phocas. The sedition broke out in the summer of 608 and quickly the Heracliids controlled Carthage and Alexandria as well as Cyprus. On October 4, 610, Heraclius landed in Constantinople, overthrew Phocas and had him put to death.
