In 280 AC, the King of Epirus, Pyrrhus I, arrived in Italy with his army and 20 war elephants. In spite of numerous victories of Pyrrhus, the Romans end up winning this war in 272 AC Following these various victories, the domination of Rome will crescendo on the Italian lands. In 264 AC begins the first Punic war which ends in 241 AC to the advantage of Rome. Carthage must then pay a heavy price and abandon Corsica, Sicily and Sardinia.
