Coments on the condition:
Superbe bronze avec un très bel aspect général malgré un flan court et une frappe un peu décentrée, surtout au revers. Épaisse patine vert foncé

Obverse description : Buste drapé à droite, un torque au cou ; légende autour de la tête.

Reverse description : Lion marchant à droite, la queue entre les pattes, légende à l’arrière et au-dessus.

Commentary


Ce type de bronze est rare ; il s’intègre dans la série A.HIR.IMP et constitue le Type 2. C’est la première fois que nous rencontrons ce rare bronze alors que nous avons proposé une vingtaine d’exemplaires du Type 1, un exemplaire du Type 3 et deux exemplaires du Type 4.
L’exemplaire conservé à la BN est celui de la collection Barthélemy ; il est illustré comme monnaie type dans le Traité de S. Scheers d’où il est encore repris pour illustrer le Nouvel Atlas.
