Historical background

RASSID - AL-MANSUR ABDALLAH

(1185-1217/AH 583-614)

The Rasids originated from the Caspian Sea on the Iranian coast. They were the leaders of a Shia sect. They populated Yemen and are at the origin of a dynasty which dominated the country until 1962. For the Rassids, we have three distinct periods of coinage. Al-Mansur abd Allah belongs to the second period.
