The Valbelle coat of arms is quartered 1 and 4 gules, a hollow cross, bell-shaped, and pommeled or; 2 and 3 gules, a lion or, armed, langued and crowned the same; overall: azure, a greyhound argent collared gules. The Valbelles originated from La Cadière in the Var in the 15th century. The family was ennobled by purchasing offices and services rendered in the Navy and the Army: in 1690, Louis XIV, in gratitude to Louis-Alphonse de Valbelle, ordinary chaplain to the King and Master of His Majesty's oratory, erected the land of Montfuron into a marquisate for the benefit of Léon de Valbelle, his elder brother, and his descendants.
