Historical background

PROVENCE - COUNTY OF PROVENCE - JOANNA OF NAPLES

(1343-1362-1382)

Jeanne de Naples (1326-1382) succeeded her grandfather in 1343. She is Queen of Naples, Countess of Provence and Forcalquier, titular queen of Jerusalem and Sicily. She was first married with André, Duke of Calabria, assassinated in 1345, then with Louis de Tarente who died in 1362, then with Jacques III, King of Majorca who died in 1375, finally with Othon de Brunswick who died in 1399. She died assassinated in 1382, leaving the County of Provence to Louis I of Anjou, son of Jean II le Bon. In Naples, it was Charles III, great-grandson of Charles II, who succeeded him before being assassinated in 1386.
