(1285-1309)

Charles II (1254-1309) is the son of Charles I of Anjou and Beatrice of Provence. On the death of his father, he is a prisoner of the king of Aragon, Peter III, which releases against a very large ransom. It is Count of Anjou, Maine, King of Naples. It can not recover Sicily, lost in 1282 after the Sicilian Vespers, continues the policy of his father, conquered Durazzo in Albania and ensures the throne of Hungary for his son Charles Martel (1271-1295). His other son Robert (1277-1343) ascended the throne of Naples to his death in 1309. He had left the county of Maine to his cousin and son Charles of Valois in 1290.
