Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire sur un flan très large et ovale, échancré à 3 heures. Usure importante, mais parfaitement lisible et identifiable. Patine grise avec des relfets métalliques, tachée et légèrement piquée

Obverse description : Buste radié, drapé et cuirassé de Probus à gauche, vu de trois quarts en arrière, tenant une haste pointée vers l’avant et un bouclier (F8).
Obverse translation : “Virtus Probi Augusti”, (La Virilité de Probus auguste).

Reverse legend : TEMPO-R FELICI / -|-// I.
Reverse description : Felicitas (la Félicité) debout à droite, tenant un caducée long de la main droite et une corne d'abondance de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Temporum Felicitas”, (La Félicité des temps).

Commentary


Poids extrêmement léger. Avec une partie de son argenture superficielle. Bouclier lisse avec umbo central et ornementation circulaire. Rubans de type 1 aux extrémités bouletées. Seulement neuf exemplaires recensés par le Docteur Bastien dont cinq avec la césure VIR-TVS. Même coin de droit que les exemplaires de l’ouvrage de Pierre Bastien, (B. 212a, b et c, pl. XXVI).
Extremely light weight. With some of its surface silvering. Smooth shield with central umbo and circular ornamentation. Type 1 ribbons with rounded ends. Only nine examples recorded by Doctor Bastien, five of which have the VIR-TVS caesura. Same obverse die as the examples in Pierre Bastien's work, (B. 212a, b and c, pl. XXVI)

PROBUS

(06-07/276-09/282)

Probus was born on August 19, 232 in Sirmium. He led a brilliant military career during the reigns between Valerian I and Tacitus. Commander of the army of the East on the death of Tacitus, he was immediately proclaimed emperor and easily triumphed over Florian, who was assassinated. The situation is serious. The Rhine-Danubian limes gave way under the pressure of the Germanic invasions. Probus restores peace in Gaul, in Germania then in Rhaetia where he inflicts a severe defeat on the Germanic peoples, in Thrace where he crushes the Sarmatians and the Scythians, in Asia Minor which he cleans of looters and Pamphylian pirates, finally in Africa where he ends the incursions of the Blemmyes. In 280, he signed peace with Vahram II, Sassanid monarch. He must face the usurpations of Saturnin, Bonose and Proculus. Probus, having triumphed over all his adversaries, returned to Rome in 281 and celebrated his victories. Before preparing a new expedition against the Sassanids, he fell under the blows of his own soldiers at Sirmium in 282.
