Historical background

PRINCIPALITY CASTLE-REGNAULT - FRANCIS DE BOURBON AND LOUISE-MARGUERITE DE LORRAINE

(1605-1614)

François de Bourbon was born August 19, 1558 at the Chateau de la Ferte-sous-Jouarre of Louis I and Eleanor of Roye. In 1581 at the Louvre, he first married Jeanne de Coëme (d. 1601) and in 1605 in the castle of Meudon, second wife, Louise-Marguerite of Lorraine (1588-1631), daughter of the Duke of Guise. It is the first Duke of Conti and the first sovereign prince. Without descent (his daughter Mary died in 1610, a natural son, Nicolas), the title will pass to his nephew Armand, brother of the Grand Condé. Opponent of the Duke of Guise, he chose the camp of Henry of Navarre during the Wars of Religion. In 1589 he signed the declaration of Princes who recognize Henri IV. Moreover, he accompanied the latter in 1590 at the battle of Ivry. He died August 3, 1614 in Paris. François de Bourbon, Prince de Conti, also Prince of Château-Regnault through his marriage to Louise-Marguerite de Lorraine.
