Ferdinand II (1619-1637), Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, erected the towns of Phalsbourg and Lixheim into a principality for Henriette de Lorraine-Vaudémont, sister of Charles IV Duke of Lorraine (1624-1675), daughter of François II of Lorraine-Vaudémont (+1632) on the occasion of her marriage to Louis, baron d'Ancerville, son of Louis II, cardinal of Guise.
