Exemplaire sur un flan idéalement centré des deux côtés. Très beau buste de Postume. Traces de circulation plus importantes au revers mais il reste agréable et parfaitement lisible. Patine grise

Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Postumus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Postume pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : VIRTV-S - AVG.
Reverse description : Postume debout à droite, tête nue, vêtu militairement, tenant une haste transversale de la main droite et un bouclier de la main gauche ; à ses pieds, un captif.
Reverse translation : “Virtus Augustus”, (La Virilité de l'auguste).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum. Ce type est en fait plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. Dans le trésor de Cunetio, ce type n’était représenté que par un unique exemplaire.

Postume seizes the purple by eliminating Salonin, son of Gallien, of whom he had custody. He reigns over Gaul, Brittany and Spain. Did Postume toy with the idea of conquering the Roman Empire? Gallien, twice, will try to reconquer the "pars occidentalis" of the Empire, without success. Postume will remain in power for nine years, before perishing assassinated for having refused the sack of Mainz, a city which supported Lélien.
