Obverse translation : "Imperator Cæsar Postumus Pius Felix Augustus", (L’empereur césar Postume pieux heureux auguste).

Commentary

Imitation ? La Fortune au revers semble démesurée, digne d’un atelier non officiel, même si le style et l’épigraphie permettent d’en douter.
Imitation? The Fortune on the reverse seems excessive, worthy of an unofficial workshop, even if the style and epigraphy allow us to doubt it.

Historical background

POSTUMUS

(06-07/260-06/269)

Postume seizes the purple by eliminating Salonin, son of Gallien, of whom he had custody. He reigns over Gaul, Brittany and Spain. Did Postume toy with the idea of conquering the Roman Empire? Gallien, twice, will try to reconquer the "pars occidentalis" of the Empire, without success. Postume will remain in power for nine years, before perishing assassinated for having refused the sack of Mainz, a city which supported Lélien.
