Commentary

Under Postumus, we have coins that are sometimes very light, but also very heavy, weighing more than five grams and up to seven grams. In no case can we speak of double antoniniani, but rather of heavy antoninians.

Historical background

POSTUMUS

(06-07/260-06/269)

Postume seizes the purple by eliminating Salonin, son of Gallien, of whom he had custody. He reigns over Gaul, Brittany and Spain. Did Postume toy with the idea of conquering the Roman Empire? Gallien, twice, will try to reconquer the "pars occidentalis" of the Empire, without success. Postume will remain in power for nine years, before perishing assassinated for having refused the sack of Mainz, a city which supported Lélien.
