(1777-1786)

Marie (1734-1816) is the daughter of Joseph, King of Portugal and Marie-Anne de Bourbon. She married her uncle Pierre III (1717-1786). They were together sovereigns of Portugal at the death of Joseph in 1777 and until 1786, date of the death of Peter III. Marie reigned alone until 1816, but in fact her son Jean VI (1767-1826) was regent from 1806 when the royal family took refuge in Brazil.
