Historical background

PORTUGAL - MARIA II

(1834-1853)

Mary II (1819-1851) was the daughter of Peter IV of Portugal and I of Brazil (1798-1834). She succeeded her uncle Miguel (1802-1866) who abdicated in her favor in 1834. In fact, her father never really reigned over Portugal, remaining in Brazil. She married twice. From her second marriage, she had Pierre V who succeeded her in 1853.
