Ce Saint-Vincent est frappé sur un flan large et légèrement irrégulier. Les reliefs sont moins nets au revers qu’au droit. Petite faiblesse de frappe à 2 heures au droit et tréflage au revers

Commentary


Ce type monétaire fut créé par la loi du 10 juin 1555. Il fut frappé à Lisbonne, comme cet exemplaire et à Porto. Les exemplaires frappés à Porto sont de la plus grande rareté. Variété avec les N rétrogrades au droit (Gomes n° 181-01).

PORTUGAL - JOHN III

(1521-1557)

John was born in Lisbon in 1502. He became King of Portugal in 1521 and succeeded his father Manuel I. He died in 1557 in Lisbon. Large-scale trade was developed during his reign and the first European post in China was opened in Macau in 1557. None of the nine children he had with Catherine of Austria survived him. His grandson Sebastian succeeded him in 1557.
