La laurisilva, forêt de lauriers de l’île de Madère, est classée au Patrimone mondial de l’Unesco depuis 1999. Ce type de végétation autrefois largement répandu en Europe a aujourd’hui quasiment disparu. La laurisilva est la plus grande forêt de lauriers existante.
