Commentary

To illustrate this, the Portuguese Mint has chosen to pay tribute to two explorers Hermenegildo Capelo (1847-1917) and Roberto Ivens (1850-1898). Both men explored the African continent under the aegis of the Geographical Society of Lisbon at the end of the 19th century. They devoted themselves mainly to the exploration of Angola and Mozambique.
