Commentary

Bartolemeu Dias (1450-1500) fut une navigateur et explorateur portugais. I l fut chargé par le roi Jean II de Portugal de poursuivre les explorations de Diogo Cão le long des côtes africaines. Il passa le Cap de Bonne-Espérance à l’extrême sud de l’Afrique. Il participe partiellement au premier voyage vers l’Inde de Vasco de Gama. Il accompagne Pedro Álvares Cabral lors de la découverte du Brésil mais périt au large de l’Afrique du Sud.
Bartolemeu Dias (1450-1500) was a Portuguese navigator and explorer. He was commissioned by King John II of Portugal to continue Diogo Cão's explorations along the African coast. He rounded the Cape of Good Hope in the southernmost part of Africa. He participated in part in Vasco da Gama's first voyage to India. He accompanied Pedro Álvares Cabral during the discovery of Brazil but perished off the coast of South Africa.
