Dimensions sans bélière : 54*29,5 mm (épaisseur : 9 mm)
Cet exemplaire, de forme rectangle arrondi, s’ouvre et permet de placer une monnaie 20 francs Or (diamètre : 22,5 mm) et une monnaie de 10 francs or (20 mm)
Les emplacements pour mettre les pièces sont guillochés formant un motif discret de rosace. L’intérieur du couvercle est lisse.
Entre les deux emplacements, on peut voir le titrage : 800 accosté de deux poinçons : une couronne dans une lettre effacée + poinçon d’orfèvre : G*G. Sur les rebords des deux emplacements, on retrouve le poinçon d’orfèvre : G*G. Sur la tranche des rebords, on retrouve deux poinçons de charançon. Sur l’anneau de suspension, retrouve le poinçon d’orfèvre : G*G et un poinçon charançon.
Technique décorative délicate qui consiste à l’application d’un sulfure métallique coloré.
Dimensions without bail: 54 x 29.5 mm (thickness: 9 mm). This example, with its rounded rectangular shape, opens to hold a 20-franc gold coin (diameter: 22.5 mm) and a 10-franc gold coin (20 mm). The coin slots are guilloché, forming a discreet rosette pattern. The inside of the lid is smooth. Between the two slots, the hallmark \\\"800\\\" is visible, flanked by two hallmarks: a crown within an effaced letter and the maker's mark \\\"G*G\\\". The maker's mark \\\"G*G\\\" is also found on the rims of the two slots. Two weevil marks are present on the edges of the rims. The suspension ring bears the maker's mark \\\"G*G\\\" and a weevil mark. This delicate decorative technique involves the application of a colored metallic sulfide.

From the Middle Ages until the middle of the 19th century, deniers, écus, and then the first francs and centimes, were carried in purses, alms pouches, or small leather change purses, often attached to the belt. When, in the second half of the 19th century, the Second Empire put into circulation more than one hundred million 20-franc gold coins minted with the image of Louis Napoleon III, it was necessary to create a safe and practical system for storing and individually transporting these precious coins. The craftsmen imagined the manufacture of a sort of coin box, which took the name of coin box, then gold holder, and quickly transformed into Louis holder, the first name of the Emperor, but also a reminder of the first gold Louis created at the end of the reign of Louis XIII in 1641.
