Commentary

Ce type monétaire fut frappé pour la première fois à Riga en 1581 sous Stéphane Bathory. Il connut un large succès et il fut encore frappé sous Sigismond III jusqu'à l'année 1619. Certaines pièces de trois groschenau nom de Sigismond III portent le millésime 1566 ; il s'agit vraisemblablement d'une erreur du graveur et ces monnaies sont soit de 1586, soit de 1596. Stéphane Bathory frappa à Riga ces pièces de trois groschen sansinterruption de 1581 à 1586..
This type of coin was first minted in Riga in 1581 under Stephen Bathory. It was very successful and was still minted under Sigismund III until 1619. Some three-groschen coins in the name of Sigismund III bear the date 1566; this is probably an engraver's error and these coins are either from 1586 or 1596. Stephen Bathory minted these three-groschen coins in Riga continuously from 1581 to 1586.
