Commentary

Les légions polonaises de Józef Pilsudski disposaient déjà de détachements de uhlans héritiers des traditions des armées napoléoniennes. Elles s’illustrèrent ensuite lors de l’insurrection de Grande-Pologne (1918-1919), puis dans les guerres contre l’Ukraine et la Russie Bochévique. En 1939, la Charge de Krojanty opposant la cavalerie polonaise aux véhicules blindés allemands sonna le glas des régiments de uhlans.
Józef Pilsudski's Polish Legions already had Uhlan detachments, heirs to the traditions of Napoleonic armies. They then distinguished themselves during the Greater Poland Uprising (1918-1919), and then in the wars against Ukraine and Boshevik Russia. In 1939, the Krojanty Charge, pitting Polish cavalry against German armored vehicles, sounded the death knell for the Uhlan regiments.
