Commentary

L’insurrection de Varsovie se déroula du 1er août au 2 octobre 1944. Ce soulèvement armé contre l'occupant allemand était organisé par la résistance polonaise. Peu soutenu par les alliés occidentaux, les polonais furent victime d’une terrible répression de la part des forces allemandes. Les troupes soviétiques massées sur l’autre rive de la Vistule n’empêchèrent pas les massacres et la destruction de la ville..
The Warsaw Uprising took place from August 1 to October 2, 1944. This armed uprising against the German occupiers was organized by the Polish resistance. With little support from the Western Allies, the Poles were subjected to terrible repression by German forces. Soviet troops massed on the other bank of the Vistula River did nothing to prevent the massacres and destruction of the city.
