Commentary

Au nombre de 48, les commissaires au Châtelet étaient des officiers de police dont la fonction était très large : surveiller les marchés, l'exercice des scellés, recevoir les plaintes des victimes, apposer des scellés après décès, recevoir les comptes de communauté de tutelle, de curatelle, de gestion de sociétés. Ils s'assemblaient deux fois par semaine au Châtelet.
The 48 commissioners at the Châtelet were police officers whose duties were very broad: monitoring markets, the exercise of seals, receiving complaints from victims, affixing seals after death, receiving accounts of community guardianship, curatorship, and company management. They met twice a week at the Châtelet.
