Ce denier est frappé sur un flan irrégulier et court. Les reliefs sont nets sur les deux faces. Une légère patine grise recouvre cette monnaie

The Melle workshop, in the south-east of Deux-Sèvres, was important in the Carolingian period and seems to have been in operation from the Merovingian period. The silver-lead mines are still accessible and can be visited by a wide public.
