Commentary
C’est la première fois que nous présentons à la vente un exemplaire de ce piéfort en or. C’est une rareté insigne car la frappe théorique de 50 exemplaires n’a certainement pas été vendue dans son intégralité. Il s’est probablement trouvé dans le public une vingtaine d’exemplaires de ce piéfort puisque l’année suivante, la dernière pour les piéforts, ne fut frappée qu’à 25 exemplaires, et ceci sans compter les refontes ultérieures.
This is the first time we are offering a example of this gold Piéfort for sale. It is a remarkable rarity because the theoretical mintage of 50 examples was certainly not sold in its entirety. There were probably around twenty examples of this Piéfort in the public since the following year, the last for Piéforts, only 25 examples were minted, and this is without counting the subsequent recasts.
