Commentary

Frappe Belle Epreuve. Le chiffre de fabrication théorique de mille exemplaires semble sans rapport avec la réalité. Par exemple, nous n’avons eu ce piéfort à vendre que deux fois en vingt ans, il semble probable que la quantité réelle vendue ne fut que de deux cents, la meilleure preuve en étant que la production de l’année suivante ne fut que de trois cents exemplaires.
Beautiful Proof Strike. The theoretical production figure of a thousand examples seems unrelated to reality. For example, we have only had this Piéfort for sale twice in twenty years, it seems likely that the actual quantity sold was only two hundred, the best proof being that the production the following year was only three hundred examples.
