Exemplaire sur flan ovale avec un avers complet mais un revers un peu plus confus, bien que parfaitement identifiable. Fine patine grise de collection ancienne

Commentary

Ces rares drachmes avec chevaux superposés au revers sont divisées en trois séries (A pour droit et revers à droite, B pour droit et revers à gauche et C pour droit à droite et revers à gauche). Pour cette série C, l’étude de la RN 1996 ne porte que sur les six exemplaires de la BN.
Il existe une variante de buste qui ne semble pas avoir été prise en compte dans les classements ; l’exemplaire de la collection Changargnier et celui du musée de Rouen ont la particularité d’avoir une tête barbue.
Au total pour le buste non barbu, nous ne connaissions que trois exemplaires passés sur le marché ; un chez Burgan, un autre chez Parsy et un dernier dans une liste Monnaies & Médailles (liste 407).

La monnaie DT. 3358 provient du trésor d’Issoudun et Charnizay ; elle est conservée à la BN (n° 5999).
L'attribution proposée dans le Nouvel Atlas est aux Bituriges, de même que les drachmes dites "au cavalier ailé des Pictons". Si l'attribution aux Pictons n'est pas totalement satisfaisante pour ces drachmes "aux deux chevaux", tout attribuer aux Bituriges nous semble assez arbitraire….
These rare drachmas with superimposed horses on the reverse are divided into three series (A for right and reverse on the right, B for right and reverse on the left and C for straight on the right and reverse on the left). For this C series, the study of the RN 1996 only concerns the six examples of the BN. There is a bust variant which does not seem to have been taken into account in the rankings; the copy from the Changargnier collection and that from the Rouen museum have the particularity of having a bearded head. In total for the unbearded bust, we only know of three examples placed on the market; one at Burgan, another at Parsy and a last one in a Coins & Medals list (list 407). DT coin. 3358 comes from the treasure of Issoudun and Charnizay; it is kept at the BN (n° 5999). The attribution proposed in the New Atlas is to the Bituriges, as are the drachmas known as \\\"the winged rider of the Pictons\\\". If the attribution to the Pictons is not completely satisfactory for these “two-horse” drachmas, attributing everything to the Bituriges seems quite arbitrary to us…
