Historical background

Picardy - ABBEY CORBIE - MINT LIMITED

(1100-1120)

The abbey of Saint-Pierre de Corbie was founded in 662 by Queen Bathilda. Some Merovingian coins and Charlemagne assigned without certainty and it is only under Charles the Bald we emission certified. Many abbots of Corbie left their names on coins such as Fulk (1048-1095), Evrard, Jean (1158-1172), Josse (1184-1187) and Hugh I (1174-1184) or Hugh II (1121 - 1240).
