Exemplaire sur un flan régulier, bien centré des deux côtés avec une frappe faible sur la légende de revers. Beau portrait expressif. Frappe molle, légèrement tréflée. Jolie patine vert foncé

Obverse description : Buste drapé, tête nue de Philippe II césar à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A°21).
Obverse translation : “Marcus Iulius Philippus Nobilissimus Cæsar”, (Marc Jules Philippe très noble césar).

Reverse


Reverse legend : PRINCIPI - IVVENT/ S|C.
Reverse description : Philippe II en habit militaire debout à gauche, vêtu militairement, tenant un globe de la main droite et un sceptre long de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Principi Iuventutis”, (Au prince de la Jeunesse).

Commentary


Légende de droit tout à fait exceptionnelle avec l’adjonction du titre NOBIL pour Nobilissimus (très noble) rarement utilisé à cette époque et qui se généralisera à partir de la fin du IIIe siècle.

Augustus

Philip II, son of Philip the Arab and Otacilia Severa, was named Augustus in 247. He participated in the commemoration of the millennium of Rome which began on April 21, 247. Philip, his father, was killed at the battle of Verona . Philip II was assassinated shortly thereafter. We do not know what happened to Otacilia Sévéra. Philip II was made Caesar shortly after the accession of his father who awarded him the title of prince of youth.
