Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale et épais. Droit particulier et inhabituel. Joli revers de style fin, bien venu à la frappe. Patine marron foncé

Commentary

Straton ou Abdastoret, roi de Sidon succéda à Bodashtart vers 370 avant J.-C. Le monnayage de bronze reprend la typologie du monnayage d'argent. Straton portait le surnom de Philhellène, c'est-à-dire l'ami des Grecs. Ce type est frappé à la fin du règne alors que Sidon est révoltée contre le grand Roi.

Abdashtart or Strato I

Sidon was with Tire one of the main ports of the Phoenician coast, essentially a military port. The new coinage of Sidon began in 112-111 BC Pompey maintained the status of a free city, later confirmed by Marc Antoine. Autonomous coinage ceased in 30/29 BC.
